Around this time last year I was dancing around the room with the news I’d been awarded a prestigious artist grant. Well now I’m able to do that all over again because I’ve just been awarded a second Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. Their generosity is unparalleled and I’m so honored to be included in the long line of figurative artists who credit the foundation for helping them fulfill their dreams of painting. Here’s to another year of doing what I love most and to the amazing generosity of those who make it happen. ❤️ Thank you #elizabethgreenshieldsfoundation
Maria Tash Collaboration
I’m excited to share with you the products of a collaboration with Maria Tash, a jewelry company specializing in ear curation. Maria and her company are at the forefront of the fine jewelry and piercing industries, with locations in New York, Rome, Dublin, Harrods London, and Dubai. With a cult following of celebrity clients including Rihanna, Zoë Kravitz, Blake Lively and Jennifer Lawrence to name a few, I was super excited when they reached out to me in an effort to combine artistic visions.
She asked her followers to submit photos of their ears sporting their favorite Maria Tash jewelry and I reinterpreted them as centerpieces for my oil wreath paintings. We shared varnishing and time lapse videos of the painting process, as well as images and videos of the environment and highlighted jewelry.
I’m thrilled with the response and the end result!

This week marked the end of the AXA Art Prize 2020 Exhibition.
Even during the crazy 2020 pandemic the 40 finalists were lucky enough to share their work with the public in the NYC exhibition. Thank you to all the friends and family who made it out to see the ears and the other 39 incredible figurative art pieces included in the show. I can’t express how much it means a lot to me. Congratulations to all those involved and I hope to be able to participate again next year!

Year Two at NYAA
This marks the beginning of my second year at the New York Academy of Art. As I was moving all of my paintings and blank canvases into my studio I couldn’t help but reflect on the fact that this is my last first day of school. The uncertain climate feels somehow appropriate as I enter into this unknown territory of preparing to leave behind a life of student behavior. I’m beginning to dip my toes into the vast unknown of the art world and I have just eight months to get ready. I know it’s going to go by quickly but with any luck I’ll make a few nice paintings in the process.
Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant
I am so incredibly honored and grateful to have been awarded the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant. It is so rare these days to find an organization whose sole mission is to support emerging figurative artists and I’m honored to be a recipient of their enormous generosity. I can only say how lucky I am to be able to share this news and have the support to continue this completely obsessive art making of mine. Thank you with all my heart.
AXA Art Prize 2020 Finalist
The Ear Project will be in NYC in November!
I am honored to be one of 40 finalists chosen from over 400 submissions and 125 different schools in the third edition of the AXA Art Prize Exhibition. The AXA Art Prize launched in 2017 and is viewed as one of the premier student art competitions in the U.S.
The first prize and second prize winners will be announced on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at the NYAA exhibition in NYC. The first prize is $10,000 and second prize is $5,000 and winners will be chosen by renowned artists Julia Chiang, Erik Parker, Laurie Simmons and Salman Toor alongside Jennifer Schipf, Global Practice Leader for Art at AXA XL. Keep your fingers crossed and stay tuned!!
Year One Down!
Last week marked the end of my second semester and first year at the New York Academy of Art. Half of the semester had to be taught online and many projects had to be abandoned in the city, but I was able to return home and settle back into my old studio. I spent my time working on more self-directed work and made a few really fun discoveries- (see new wreath paintings and a puppet self-portrait in progress!).
Looking back on work that I was making just last year has really shown me what a difference one year can make when you surround yourself with the right people and allow yourself to grow. It’s easy to forget how valuable the passing comments are when suddenly you don’t have anyone telling you something looks good or needs a bit of work. In a small way I’m grateful I ended the year on Zoom because I will be that much more appreciative when I return to school.
Congratulations to the Class of 2020! See you real soon Tribeca.
